Perceptual reasoning measures the subject’s ability to find relationships between non verbal stimuli and as well as testing their reasoning skills. It is considered to be a useful indicator of general intelligence and problem solving skills. The Perceptual Reasoning Index Scale is one of the four subtests of the current Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS.)WAIS is an IQ test given to adults to measure their intelligence and cognitive abilities.

101 The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is an intelligence test first published in 1955 and designed to measure intelligence in adults and older adolescents.

The Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI) is one of four derived indices from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 4th edition (WISC-IV; Wechsler, 2003).

The test was designed by psychologist David Wechsler, who believed that intelligence was made up of a number of different mental abilities rather than a single general intelligence Instead, a path was added from Working Memory to Figure Weights (Perceptual Reasoning subtest) to improve fit and achieve a desired factor pattern. The present research with the same data (N = 1,800) showed that the path from Working Memory to Figure Weights increases the association between Working Memory and Matrix Reasoning. Client is a 62-year-old male who completed the WAIS–IV.

Ability to maintain consistent focus and attention impact these subtests. Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is the most commonly used adult IQ test for measuring intelligence. A previous version of the test was known as the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale (WBIS), which was published in 1939. The Perceptual Reasoning Composite assesses nonverbal reasoning and problem solving. It is composed of subtests that measure nonverbal abstract reasoning skills, perceptual reasoning, and perceptual organization. Ability to maintain consistent focus and attention impact these subtests. All this is further explained here.

Female’s nonverbal reasoning abilities as measured by the Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI) are in the low average range and above those of only 21% of her peers (PRI =88; 95% confidence interval = 82-95). The WAIS-IV has 10 core subtests (Arithmetic, Block Design, Comprehension, Digit Span, Digit Symbol, Information, Letter-Number Sequencing, Matrix Reasoning, Picture Arrangement, Picture Completion, Processing Speed, Object Assembly, Similarities, Symbol Search, and Vocabulary) which make up four index scores, including the Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI), the Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI The Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI) measures the nonverbal ability to construct and organize visual material, problem solve, and interpret abstract concepts and relationships.
